CCSF Enrollment & Class Demand

Short answer: CCSF experienced a major long-term enrollment decline, especially during the pandemic, but recent enrollment has also shown growth. At the same time, several high-demand subjects have had full sections and waitlists.

Long-term enrollment

CCSF’s enrollment declined substantially over the past decade and during the pandemic. More recent CCSF reports have documented year-over-year enrollment increases, so long-term decline and current direction should be treated as separate questions.

Class demand and capacity

Public reporting in 2026 documented substantial unmet demand in several subjects, including biology, chemistry, English, and art. Full sections and waitlists can limit a student’s ability to enroll even when overall institutional enrollment remains below historical levels.

Why class capacity matters for enrollment growth

Enrollment growth depends on both student recruitment and available course capacity. When required or high-demand sections are full, students may delay completion, enroll elsewhere, or stop out.
